Outer Membrane Vesicles (OMVs) are derived from the outer membranes of gram-negative bacteria and contain periplasmic content which allows bacteria to interact with the environment. OMVs serve a variety of functions which enable the bacteria to survive stress condition places upon the bacteria. Bacteria communicate with each other through the signaling of outer membrane vesicles, or OMVs. These OMVs are the main component of quorum sensing which is the cell-to-cell signaling system. In addition of signaling, OMVs can be used in carrying DNA microbes for genetic transformation.
